Event Recap
humanIT recently hosted a workshop titled “Accelerate Your Impact with Microsoft’s Game-Changing Technologies”. During this event, for-purpose leaders were invited to listen to industry experts talk about the possibilities of Microsoft technologies and how they can help make operations more efficient for NFPs to streamline tasks and amplify their impact.
We were fortunate enough to have Microsoft’s Chris Lines speak at the workshop, alongside humanIT’s Ian Patterson, John Smolenaers, and Andy Barker. For those who weren’t able to attend the event, here are some of the key takeaways that you can take on board for your own for-purpose organisation.
Leveraging AI to Streamline Operations
AI has the potential to enhance operational efficiency for for-purpose organisations moving forward. In particular, at the event, there was a lot of discussion around the capabilities and benefits of the AI-powered tool Microsoft Copilot. Speaker Chris Lines even joked that “Microsoft has more Copilots than Qantas”, but his point was to demonstrate the true scale of AI’s role in automating tasks that traditionally consume significant amounts of time and energy.
Microsoft’s early adopters program for Copilot unearthed a number of practical insights including that on average Copilot saved the average employee 10 hours per month. If you do the math this translates to one free employee for every 16 in your team.
Such automation allows for-purpose organisations to reallocate precious time towards activities that directly contribute to their core mission. By implementing tools like Copilot, your organisation can see a significant improvement in productivity, ensuring that every dollar and every hour is used to its fullest potential. The strategic deployment of AI technologies supports NFPs in overcoming operational challenges, enhancing their capacity to serve their communities more effectively.
Of course, as Chris Lines pointed out, “Copilot is not an autopilot”, and for-purpose organisations who strategically use AI to complement their processes rather than replacing all human input will see the greatest benefits.
Enhancing Data Management and Protection
Data protection has always been a major concern for for-purpose organisations – a topic that was discussed in depth at the event by humanIT’s John Smolenaers. John spoke about a number of different cybersecurity measures organisations can take to mitigate the risk of data breaches, starting with “regular security awareness training, which is a really powerful tool that empowers users to actually be the first line of defence for a cyber attack”.
The comprehensive security capability provided via Microsoft 365, Defender, EndPoint Manager, and Entra ID, enables organisations to embed compliance with the Essential Eight Cyber Security Framework, ensuring organisations achieve the right balance between data accessibility for authorised personnel and secure systems. This approach not only fortifies the organisation’s defences against external threats but also aligns with privacy regulations, creating highly compliant and resilient operations. Such an integrated strategy is critical to provide a secure foundation that protects your organisation, your funders and donors, and your beneficiaries.
By prioritising data protection, your organisation not only protects itself from potential cyber threats but also strengthens your duty of care to the information entrusted to you. This commitment to security is fast becoming a cornerstone of many organisation’s values and reinforcing its reputation in the community it serves.
Centralising Contact Management for Greater Impact
The significance of centralising contact management in enhancing stakeholder engagement was another important theme of the event. A fragmented approach to managing contacts can lead to inefficiencies and missed opportunities for meaningful engagement. By consolidating contacts into a unified system, your for-purpose organisation can better:
- Improve accuracy and consistency in contact information
- Enhance your ability to personalise and streamline outreach activities
This centralisation is crucial in developing a deeper understanding of the needs and preferences of donors, volunteers, and beneficiaries, enabling your organisation to tailor your communication strategies effectively.
The discussion explored the technical and strategic aspects of implementing a centralised contact management system. Such a system not only simplifies administrative processes but also empowers your organisation to leverage data analytics for targeted outreach, ensuring that every message resonates with its intended audience. This personalised approach is fundamental in building trust and loyalty among stakeholders.
